(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) - June 30, 2011 - Greenspiration Home, LLC --  Wood…. brick…. textiles…. furniture… rugs.… stone…. tile…. countertops…. The opportunities to build and decorate a home with American-made products are there, but few homeowners know where to begin.  Finding the red, white, and blue (not to mention green) isn’t easy to do when we are surrounded by imports everywhere we go – from the furniture store to the wholesale plumbing supply shop.

Trish Holder, Greenspiration Home publisher, knows this from personal experience.  Whenever possible, practical, or at all affordable, she tried to build and furnish the Greenspiration Showcase home with American-made products.  Sourcing some products was easier than others.

What was easiest?

“Wood, brick, shingles, and windows were all pretty easy – although depending on where you live you may be getting these from across the country.  We managed to source all these product from within our home state of NC.”

What was the toughest?

Tile,” said Holder. “There are very few domestic tile makers in the US and those that are large enough to have a wide selection tend to be very expensive."

Holder blogs frequently on domestically made home products at www.greenspirationhome.com.  According to Holder, sourcing local or domestic products should be a part of anyone’s sustainability initiative.
