When The Palazzo was first being constructed, Las Vegas Sands had an opportunity to build it in a way that would be environmentally friendly as a LEED certified, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, building. Based on this initiative, Las Vegas Sands began to take on several opportunities in sustainability for new and existing buildings. As part of the initial group that led to the development of Sands ECO360, John Hess, corporate executive director of Engineering, provides technical support during all phases of construction for new buildings and major renovation projects.
By employing tactics to keep tabs on energy usage, water consumption and waste at manufacturing sites, Whirlpool Corporation has empowered its sustainability team to scale its impact globally and potentially save the company at least $1 million over the next two years.
With food waste from local manufacturing threatening to overwhelm available waste treatment capacity in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the City has begun a project to convert that waste to energy. Tetra Tech is leading the design phase of a $38-million waste-to-energy biodigester as part of the city’s goal of using 100-percent renewable energy to power city buildings by 2025. Biodigesters combine organic waste with microorganisms in air-tight tanks, creating a biogas that produces energy to power and heat buildings.
2018 marks 12 years of sustainability efforts at Las Vegas Sands. During the construction of The Palazzo in 2016, while green building was still a new concept to the market, Las Vegas Sands hired a consultant to incorporate sustainability features to the development of the new resort and achieved LEED Silver® for New Construction. LEED Certifications, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a rating system devised by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to evaluate the environmental performance of a building and encourage market transformation towards sustainable design.
Building a smart city is easy to envision, but it can be challenging to implement. From questions about financing and stakeholder engagement to technology advocacy and information technology (IT) governance, there is a lot to consider after you’ve made the decision to enable data to make your community more livable, sustainable and connected. After the overarching vision and strategy are set, making smart cities real often starts by implementing a series of smaller changes that contribute to the overall transformation.
As business leaders and heads of state congregate at Davos for the 2018 World Economic Forum to explore solutions to the world’s biggest challenges, they will come across an innovative new way to get around town—public bus transportation.
The TOSA bus, developed by ABB, a Swiss technology company, isn’t just any bus; it’s an electric bus that can recharge its batteries in as little as 20 seconds by linking up to overhead flash-charging points as it makes stops along its route.
The TOSA bus is the latest in new public transportation initiatives in several cities worldwide that are incorporating sustainable technologies to deal with rapid population growth, climate change, and aging infrastructure.
From new recycled paper facestock to marble-based “paper” and compostable adhesive, Avery Dennison is offering brand owners and converters an increasingly wide choice of sustainable options for their needs.
Green Charge is proud to announce our name change to ENGIE Storage. While our name is changing, our mission to power the world efficiently and sustainably with energy storage is the same, and we think better accomplished as a part of ENGIE.
Aramark is teaming with the NFL and PepsiCo, along with U.S. Bank Stadium partners, for a landmark sustainability project at Super Bowl LII – Rush2Recycle -- aimed to recover more than 90% -- more than 40 tons -- of stadium waste on game day. The project is part of the NFL’s initiative to reduce the environmental impact of Super Bowl LII activities and leave a “green” legacy throughout the area.
