Do You Want to be a Scientist When You Grow Up?

One of the highlights of my job as a Community Partnerships Representative is seeing kids learn about the fascinating world of science that exists all around them.

When I hear kids say they want to become scientists, I know that our GSK Science in the Summer™ program is making a difference in their lives. Aditi, an 8-year-old who attended Science in the Summer in Montgomery County, made my day when she took the time to speak with me about her future.

Building a Healthier, Happier Future for Children Through Corporate Giving Programs

One in four Texans lives at or below the poverty level; for children, it's nearly one in three. More than 6.3 million Texans - including 1.2 million children - lack health insurance. The uninsured are up to four times less likely to have a regular source of health care and are more likely to die from health-related problems. Related to communicable diseases, it is estimated that 1 in 4 children living in Texas go without all the necessary immunizations to lead healthy, happy lives due to a lack of affordability and access to medical care. Finally, lacking a medical home, most often uninsured people tend to look for health care in the emergency room, the most expensive setting they could possibly choose.

Can Sponsored Content be Meaningful?

As many of you know, corporate foundations, are always looking for ways and means to share insights into their strategy, talk about their NGO partnerships, and highlight the potential impact of their giving. But how do we do that effectively? Well, one way is to explore the option of building meaningful sponsored content. Meaningful is the operative word.

Giving Back and Going Back...Prepping for School in NC

Today in Durham NC, over 150 GSK volunteers handed out backpacks filled with school supplies to children at the Durham Rescue Mission’s 16th annual Back to School Party. GSK donates the supplies (over 3000 backpacks!) and helps at the event as a contribution to the health of the community where we are proud to live and work. The goal is to get kids excited about going back to school and getting a good start on the new school year. Ten Years After Katrina

At the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, CECP looks back at how disaster relief response has changed among companies. We found that overall, the data show that aggregate giving from corporations for disaster relief has declined over the last five years. A deeper look into the data and additional resources shows that it’s a complex story.
